The use of calculators in my Algebra 1 class is a daily requirement. Using the TI Inspire calculators, students are able to perform the basic calculations as well as higher level math like trigonometry and calculus. The reason these particular calculators are so great is that they are capable of tasks like solving equations, systems of equations, and even graphing with colored shading. It might not seem like much, but when students are taking standardized tests, the ability to input these things on a calculator cuts down the time spent on particular problems and ensures the correct answer. This is a big deal because unfortunately, students in my district are judged by their ability to achieve high standardized test scores and not necessarily whether they learn the content. By having TI Inspire calculators, students who are struggling in class or students with IEPs can find a quicker, easier way to get to the solution of a problem. This will undoubtedly give them the confidence going forward to to be engaged and attempt more challenging problems.
