My students love reading books any chance they get! With these new books, we will add more diversity to our classroom library. I have chosen these books with my students in mind and the topics we cover throughout the school year. I've included books to help my students learn about important historical figures and to help them learn more about the cultures, heritage, and holidays of different groups of people. Some of these books also go along with important celebrations such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Women's History Month, as well as Holidays Around the World and Earth Day. I've also included books about acceptance, understanding emotions, and having a growth mindset to help my students with Social Emotional Learning, as well as books that teach about diversity and help my students feel represented. These resources will help teach the following Social Studies, Science, Reading Literature, and Reading Informational Standards: SS.K.9, SS.K.10, SS.K.11, SS.K.12, SS.K.13, SS.K.14, K-LS1-1, K-ESS2-2, K-ESS3-1, K-ESS3-3, RL.K.1, RL.K.3, RL.K.4, RL.K.7, RL.K.10, RI.K.1, RI.K.2, RI.K.3, RI.K.4, RI.K.7, RI.K.8, RI.K.9, and RI.K.10 These resources will also help fulfill COVID-related learning needs in my classroom with Social Emotional Learning due to many students not being around other children for about a year and a half. These books will expose them to more fiction and nonfiction literature since many of my students did not (and still do not) have access to books at home.
