Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that works best for them. Throughout the week students are allowed to choose where the would like to sit, based on day of the week. Currently, my students are choosing to work sitting or laying on the floor with clipboards or sitting at my teacher table. Flexible seating is an innovative game changer in today's educational classrooms. Teachers work so hard to differentiate our lessons to help ALL students, so why shouldn't we also differentiate our seating options? Elementary aged students are naturally energetic, curious kids who struggle to focus for long periods of time. Add in a few learning disabilities and an unstimulating classroom environment and it makes it almost impossible for them to get the most out of their independent work time. Providing options to move while working increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. However flexible seating is so much more than that. Making sure my students are comfortable while learning is essential to them being motivated. I have noticed an amazing difference in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. I have seen them make good, responsible choices in where they sit and are more engaged while completing work. The products I have selected will help my students have an effective learning environment through flexible seating options. The bean bag chairs are a great way for students to be comfortable learning on the ground and will be a option for students who usually sit on the floor. The yoga ball chairs are beneficial for students posture and for those who may need to wiggly. Both choices will be very beneficial for every students now and in the future.
