The purpose of my project is to promote student independence by providing them with a secure and reliable charging station that can be relocated based on the needs of the students and/or activities. Also, the use of headphones is crucial to ensure students are able to focus on their own i-pad activities such as i-Ready or Boom cards, without being disturbed by the activities of their peers. Headphones will as well help us diminish the sensory overload of some of the students.
All of my students are on the Autism Spectrum and the use of interactive activities and materials as well as tools that will promote independence will open the door to reach their unique learning styles. To ensure I am reaching and meeting their learning needs, my project also includes an interactive wireless whiteboard system and digital pencils. These materials will help me promote social interaction between students. By completing activities on an interactive whiteboard students will have a larger opportunity to communicate and collaborate with their peers.
My project will help me meet and fulfill the academic standards needed for my students to receive the most of the general education curriculum. Students will be able to utilize the interactive whiteboard, and pens to write numbers (K.CC.A.3), stories (W.K.1), and practice their overall writing skills. Also, reading standards will be addressed. Students will be able to utilize the whiteboard and pens to interact with the sequence of stories, create anchor charts, and even answering comprehension questions through pictures.
In conclusion, my project is more than just charging tablets, or simply having an interactive whiteboard, but it is a form of differentiated instruction for students and help them succeed while being exposed to the general education curriculum.
