Initially this will be an introductory program for the game of golf. Students will learn about the history, traditions, and etiquette of the golf game as they begin to learn the fundamentals of the game. Golf is a sport that they can use throughout their lifetime, whether channeling it into an eventual scholarship or using it in business ventures when they reach their careers. Golf is not only good physically for them, but great mentally, and can give many of our students an outlet for their frustrations and challenges they face in their day to day struggles. It can be an intimidating game, but it is one that anyone can learn.
The lessons will be one hour long and will rotate through the 3 stations every 20 minutes. The program will end with a trip to the local golf course and playing a round of golf set up for their abilities; ~5-6 holes. Each lesson will be set up with 3 stations: putting, chipping, and driving. That is why I am requesting donations for sporting equipment to begin the program. I need putters, irons, and drivers for the students to learn the clubs and swing for each club, and bags to keep the clubs in to keep them together. I have requested balls to hit and putting mats to practice on for putting. Also, foam balls to practice indoors during inclement weather. I also would love to have the chipping target for improved practice of chipping the ball. These are not things that schools typically have access to in PE or their gyms, but it would truly help our school to standout and give us a sport that no other elementary school offers in our cooperation.
