Music programs everywhere have been hit hard by COVID and the restrictions followed to keep all students safe. Some of these precautions meant no singing, no recorders, and almost no instrument playing at all in elementary music this past year!
Ukuleles are a fantastic way to reinvigorate our children's love for music in a FUN and versatile way and is something they can carry with them far beyond the elementary music classroom! Ukuleles are a great asset to any elementary music classroom as they are more sanitary than the old recorders, not to mention you can sing AND play at the same time while enhancing music literacy! A ukulele is small enough for young musicians, and provides the opportunity for students to learn small amounts at a time but apply their knowledge to a wide variety of musical genres, styles and songs. Students can play in a group, but also continue to work individually at home if they choose! The ukulele offers so many options to students, but best of all - the kids can relate to this instrument and connect with each other through music which is something we all need a little more of after the last 18 months!
Just in case that wasn't enough, let's not forget that music has been scientifically proven to increase a student's overall academic achievement and creates neural pathways in the brain (connections!) that we continue to study and learn more about. Music contains elements of math, science, language, art, history, physical education and reading. Helping a child find joy and meaning through music is truly a never ending gift. Thank you for your consideration!
