As an elementary school counselor, my mission is to help my students grow into the most resilient, compassionate, creative, and kind humans they can be. The COVID pandemic has taken away valuable time where kids learn and practice these skills. The mental and emotional well being of our students impacts every part of their life. Learning how to navigate social skills and regulate emotions is just as important as academics. A strong SEL foundation is crucial in creating resilient, empathetic, and kind learners. My project is to create a well rounded library that is filled with SEL books that covers topics like friendship, worry, feeling recognition, grief, stress, etc., a calming corner that includes a timer and sensory toys/ fidgets, and social games I can use during my social skills groups. I believe this project can impact students positively school wide.
