We would like to expand our 3D design, creation, and printing beyond our STEM students and to the next level. We want every student in every class at Leavitt to have the opportunity to imagine an object, create it using the free Tinkercad software, and print it on our 3D printers(additive and subtractive). We have designed our own plastic repurposing center. Students bring in their own plastic objects such as water bottles and plastic cups, run them through the stations we have in our plastic repurposing center, and create their own filament. Once students have their own filament, they imagine an object to design or work on one assigned to them in class. They use the Tinker CAD software to design their 3D object. They can then print it on one of our 3D printers. This is where the laser comes in. With the use of the laser the students would learn subtractive methods of printing and can cut out pieces/designs or engrave their logos on their items. Using the repurposing machines students make sheets of plastics that they would use as their base material to cut out. We are pioneers in this area and have not found any examples of plastic repurposing west of Texas. This would bring our repurposing system to the next level. We would like the students to become entrepreneurs thus understanding and learning Business management skills, Teamwork and leadership skills, Communication and listening, Customer service skills, Financial skills , Analytical and problem-solving skills, Critical thinking skills ,Strategic thinking and planning skills.
