These resources will promote Nevada Academic Content Standards H1.PK.1 Children begin to complete simple tasks together, Ec11.PK.1 Demonstrate the role of consumers and understand that money is exchanged for goods and/or services, Ec9.PK.2 Demonstrate the role of different jobs in the community, 1.PK.1a Make independent choices from diverse interest centers or activities, 8.PK.3a Engage in dramatic play to convey experiences, feelings, ideas, or stories, and 5.PK.1c Engage in dramatic play, N.PK.5 Students work in small groups and share ideas with others regarding to science related activities, and E.PK.4 Identify and sort different natural objects (e.g., rocks, soils, etc.).
Early childhood students have spent half of their lives in a pandemic.
These resources will be used in the classroom to expose young students to the concept of shopping, the service industry, exploration, creative and lateral thinking, and the economy. Exposure that they were unable to get because of closure and shutdown of the world around them due to Covid 19. The students have missed out on months of valuable observations that they can regain with role play and sensory play in the classroom. Role play and sensory play are both valuable forms of learning for a young child. Giving the students a variety of opportunities for role play in the classroom will result in a growth of language, cooperative skills, and their imaginations. They will also grow with sensory play pretending to land on the moon and drive over the surfaces in outer space or pretending to be the boss on a construction site, or a scientist digging up dinosaur bones.
Giving the students the interactive options of sensory and role play will foster a love of school and learning and providing them with a variety of options will give them something new and exciting to look forward to.
