My students are so special! I love what I do and trying to help them gain access to their world around them by bringing experiences to them whether it is through orientation and mobility or visual impairment services. My students have visual impairments ranging from low vision, blindness to multiple impairments. By providing my students who have multiple impairments with a range of materials such as the pegboards, tubing, elastic and cord locks we will be able to make individualized visual sensory mobiles that engage our learners across multiple classrooms. When the world and experiences are not brought to our students, they often retreat into themselves. These materials will allow students the opportunity to explore and for us as teachers to discover what they like and enjoy. By providing items such as the hexagonal wall lights, light up hoops and finger lights, which can hang and be placed on the pegboards will be able to bring them visual stimulation which may engage reaching, visual efficiency and even a smile. We love taking our students out of their wheelchairs and placing them in different positions for stretching and gross motor skills, the activity play center will help with that!
My students with multiple impairments are in need of materials that create an environment of engagement and motivation through sensory, visual, auditory and tactile stimulation.
My students with low vision and blindness often do not get to experience and engage in social interactions through classroom games and have equal access to sports such as basketball and soccer. These items will allow students to engage with their peers and create friendships. By having the bop it, hide and seek, jump ropes and bell basketballs, these students will have the opportunity to socialize with their friends during social times such as recess and games.
