NEW Pottery Wheel for Ceramics

Funded Dec 28, 2021

My students and I are overjoyed with the addition of a brand new pottery wheel to the ceramics classroom! With overcrowding, each of my classes is around 35 students and I only had until now 6 pottery wheels. Students needed to throw in a rotation sometimes only once every few weeks, having one more pottery wheel greatly increases the ability for my students to build their skills.

Students were incredibly excited on the new addition and were fighting over who got to throw on the wheel first. The rest of the pottery wheels have been here since the school opened and the contrast with this brand new one was very apparent. My student teacher who put all the work into creating the donors choose and an honors ceramics student are two of the first people who were lucky enough to take the pottery wheel on its first spin!

My advanced students are working on a set of dishes that they have thrown on the wheel. With the addition of this new wheel, my students will be able to throw their final pieces- two plates- on the wheel between now and Spring Break. Students will then utilize the S'graffito technique to etch onto their pieces and relate them to the rest of their dish set.”

With gratitude,
