These donated resources will enable our students to experiment with a medium with which they would not otherwise become familiar in the public school setting. This gel printmaking start-up set will not only provide a variety of inks, printing plates, and paper to supplement our learning objectives. The most significant advantage to this start-up is the fact that we will only have to replace inks in order to continue this specific instruction next year. Students will learn to balance the organic nature of creative expression with the structured discipline of the art medium. They will observe several traditional monotype printmaking techniques and enjoy a sequence of experimental mixed media exercises. A secondary learning objective is modeling the discipline of printmaking and maintenance of all studio equipment. Upon completion of each project, students will ultimately gain confidence and strength in their two-dimensional skill base. With support from Donors Choose, "Printmaking Power" will enable our students to engage in meaningful projects during a crippling survival mode that our regional budget imposes. Hopefully, a number of students will exhibit their finished pieces throughout their community as a result of this funding. These timeless techniques will buttress students' artistic repertoires as they complete A.P portfolios at the senior high level and possibly develop the confidence to seek training in college.
