Flexible seating, fidgets and other sensory items are very important in my classroom to help my students focus. Research shows that students with ASD, ADHD, and/or ADD can concentrate better when they’re allowed to move freely and fidget. Processing information becomes easier when students use flexible seating. By donating to our project, you will not only help improve and increase student attention and focus, you will also help increase their academic achievement. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them to stay focused and on task. I have noticed amazing differences in my students attention to task when they are allowed to use their flexible seating and sensory items during instruction time and independent work. They almost always are more engaged and get more work completed than when they don't use their sensory items. These supports help my students increase their learning in all subject areas. Sensory items allow my students to release excess energy in appropriate and socially acceptable ways while enabling them to stay on-task and focused on their work. Sensory input also enables students to be less disruptive because they are able to use that excess energy which cuts down on disciplinary incidents and behaviors.
