Our current class library does not have enough books for our fifth graders' reading levels. Many are 2, 3, and even four years behind. These children need many more high-interest books with characters who look like them. Our children need to be able to connect to characters. A good start is having characters who are more diverse, written by various authors. Two of most titles selected here are so the children can read them in partnerships. Just like adults have book clubs, our children will also be taught to read and discuss ideas in book clubs. Reading is always more fun when we have a friend to share it with.
