Students with ASD are working to catch up academically to their peers. Due to their disabilities, students with Autism require hands-on and visual learning aids. Currently, my students are struggling with reading and writing independently. Using the sentence builders will allow the students to manipulate and build their own sentences. Manipulatives have been proven to assist students on the spectrum and become successful. We are segmenting sounds in words to better assist students with their reading. We have to be repetitive in our curriculum and customize it to meet the students' needs. My students also struggle in math. They require visuals and manipulatives in order to process the concepts being taught. Some of my students are working on quantity, others are working on adding and subtracting within twenty, and others are working on adding and subtracting with regrouping. We are attempting to work on multiplication and place value. These are key curriculum they must know in order to progress forward and pass standardized tests. Below are two of the standards that these supplies will assist my students in achieving. RF.1.3 - Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. 2.NBT.B.6 Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations
