I have a self-contained classroom for students with autism at a Title I school. Seventy-four percent of students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunch and 85% of our student body is Black, Latinx, Native American, or Asian. My students have a wide range of academic, social/emotional, behavioral, and communication needs. My classroom is highly structured and individualized. The environment and instruction are modified to best fit each child's unique needs. We utilize a variety of materials to engage in sensory activities to maintain focus and attention on the tasks at hand. My students deserve to have an education that best fits their unique learning styles and helps promote independence in whatever capacity that may be.
