These materials will elicit multiple opportunities for my students to practice their communication skills. Providing hands-on learning reinforcers meaningful communication through initiating, turn-taking, and targeted speech sounds. In using these tools, I will be able to target and address many language and communication standards. Cooperative games elicit turn-taking, a foundational skill needed in communication, as well as creating receptive language opportunities for identification of objects, functions, attributes, etc., and opportunities for requesting. The Osmo pizza play activity will provide additional opportunities for language practice including following directions, sequencing, and describing. Using the story sequencing cards, students will be able to retell a story, target syntax structures, describe a setting, engage in collaborative conversations among many other standard targets. SL K-5-1: Describe familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail. SL K-5-4: Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly. SL K-5-5: Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking clearly at an understandable pace.
