I am requesting that we build a classroom library with books that represent my student's experience. Having books that reflect them in the stories gives them more reason to read and develop a like for it. Putting books in their hands and providing comfortable pillows to sit on enhances their reading experience and makes them look forward it that time. I see my students developing into intentional life-long readers who will read for fun and well as academics. Having a variety of material to read will give them exposure to a multitude of experiences and cover all the reading standards: 1. ELA-RL.8.2 and RI.8.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text to provide an objective summary of the text. Students will also increase their vocabulary and learn skills to help them determine word meaning. 2. ELA-RL.8.4 and RI.8.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including analogies or allusions to other texts. They will grow as writers because they can use what they read to write about different topics - relevant to their lives - and from different perspectives: 3. ELA-W.8.2 Write informative/explanatory texts about relevant content. Moving forward, having this library will expose students to a variety of text and help them choose materials they want to read in the event we have to go to virtual learning again. I am confident that students will appreciate this library and develop a deeper understanding of what they read.
