Math 8.G.A.2: Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations; given two congruent figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between them. In order for my students to show mastery of the standard above, we need the necessary supplies (rulers, protractors, scissors, etc.). I have been borrowing from other teachers and it is about time my classroom has its own supplies. In addition to these supplies, we are working on engaging projects, such as our scale drawing project in which we need markers and colored pencils. Each quarter we have a class average contest where the class with the best class average wins! Rewards for this and positive reinforcements have also been requested as students aren't always motivated. I am so excited to see my students progress throughout the school year and making the classroom even more inviting. This will happen with motivational posters/academic vocabulary on a word wall, string lights so we can lower those "too-bright" florescent lights, a stuffed animal horse (that is our school mascot) to serve as our class pet (they have requested this), and speakers for our laptop so they can actually hear the morning announcements would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so very much.
