These sensory tools will empower my students to more easily access the curriculum and remain focused on the task at hand. Most of my students struggle to remain focused without continual sensory stimulation. These tools should help keep their minds engaged and allow them to explore higher areas cognitively. This would represent a victory and an important benchmark for these students. Most are well behind grade level and every tool that helps them to progress academically is welcome. In grades 6-8, my students are currently learning to identify the beginning, middle and endings of stories to include sequencing and identifying main ideas and key details. These concepts can be challenging for any student. Most of these students have additional stressors due to dysfunctional home lives. These tools offer a sensory pleasing and stimulating visual representation that the students can use to help them focus and remain calm during high stress situations. If this project is funded, these students will readily directly benefit from this exciting new technology.
