I strive to create a classroom that is welcoming and student-centered. A few of my beginning of the year assignments are based in Social and Emotional Competencies such as Self-Awareness. These projects utilize artistic mediums that my school doesn't provide, which is why I am requesting crayons, markers and bulletin board supplies. I also want to create bulletin boards to address perseverance and responsible decision making skills as reference points throughout the school year. It is my goal to inspire my students to read for pleasure. I have also chosen high interest young adult books for my classroom library for students to check out and read independently. Part of my English curriculum for 9th and 10th grade students incorporates daily silent individual reading. Each day I model reading for my students, and I hope that my love of reading can be passed along to them by offering them not only the time to read, but by also providing books I know to be engaging and accessible to my students. Students will then analyze their independent reading quarterly in a written format. (RL 9/10.1-10)
