  • Literacy in Spanish

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. Thank you for helping to ensure my Spanish Literacy Program is a success. I can't wait to see the looks on the students faces when they are choosing their books and their voices as they read to their groups. I am excited to allow each student some silent reading time in Spanish each week. I know our students will truly appreciate the art supplies as well. They love to use their creativity for book reviews and "smash doodles." Thanks to you they will have some wonderful options in Spanish!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carpenter

  • Inspirational Mural Project for Spanish Students

    Funded Oct 17, 2021

Our students were excited to be able to create our mural project because of your generosity! New student leaders emerged during this project. My new leaders added to our ability to complete the mural in a fun way AND in SPANISH!

A big shout out to Elissa for helping with crowd control, set up and clean up! My seventh hour super stars helped balance our wings and even out our design. We are blessed to have so many talented students! I made a video of our journey with special camera expertise from Talik!

Dr. Ford was happy to help us hang our work in the main hall so that all students can enjoy this mural. Our wings have become a photo op for many. Thanks again for your willingness to help us create a special project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carpenter

The best way to keep our students excited about Spanish is to give them something different, creative and hands-on. Out mural theme is "We all have wings, our task is to learn to use them to fly." Each student will create a large feather to form the wings of the mural. Students will contribute an individual design on each feather using the Prismacolor pencils. This mural project will help our students experience a side of language learning that will make them more excited about Spanish and make cultural connections. Art projects involve instructions. Giving instructions in Spanish is fabulous way to develop our students’ listening skills while providing them with an immersion opportunity, as is randomly speaking Spanish around the room while they work on these projects. Students react very positively to the language in this sort of environment. The paint, brushes, special prisma pencils and paper will help us round out the supplies needed.
