I have utilized the Handwriting Without Tears program for the past two years. I have never had a better handwriting program however, in order to fully implement the program I am in need of additional supplies. Many students' fine motor skills have become underdeveloped because of the use of touch screens. The requested wet, dry, try slates are beneficial to my students because of the daily routine we would follow. Students use chalk bits to write a letter as I instruct them how to properly form the letter. They then use a very small, wet sponge to trace over their chalk writing. Next, with one hand the student will crumble up a very small square of paper towel to dry their board tracing over their written letter for a third time. Last, they get to write the letter again using their chalk bit. Daily practice using the wet, dry, try board is beneficial for not only their fine motor skills but solidifying their letter knowledge and learning to correctly write the letters.
