  • Rhythmic Tools for Self-Regulation and Myelination

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

This past quarter our middle school students have been learning about their brains through the neural education lens and the Mind Up Curriculum.

Rythm is important to the native culture and is experienced in drum and dance celebrations. Our students have the opportunity to participate in daily circle rituals and a weekly longer circle celebration. Students also have the opportunity to take culture classes where they are able to engage in rhythmic activities, including song and dance.

In advisory, the materials provided by your donations have reinforced rhythm and regulation. The ball bouncing is connected to building new neural pathways that support mylenation of new learning. The sticks and music tubes support the healing that comes from co-regulation with each other and the community.

Your generous donation has supported our middle school students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Remy

  • Wellness Room Cultural Reflection Books

    Funded Apr 8, 2022

Your books have inspired our students to connect their social emotional learning to their native and indigenous culture. Our students have enjoyed seeing books with characters that represent their culture and "look like them." At Leschi we continually state, Culture is SEL.

This year our books will be imbedded into our SEL core curriculum, SpEd intervention, and wellness room. Our SEL team is excited to see how our students continue to connect with the books you have provided.

Thank you for your donation to support our students at Chief Leschi.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Remy

  • SEL Books to Promote Self-Regulation

    Funded Oct 28, 2021

Our new set of SEL books allows our PK-12 students connect with characters learning similar social skills they are working on learning. So far our students are loving reading the books during their independent reading times. Our teachers are loving having a resource library of books to connect with students. The teachers are using their books to support their whole group SEL lessons. A few have even requested books to be used in small group and 1:1 groups to support specific lessons. Thank you for helping our staff recognize the importance of targeted literacy around Social Emotional Learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Remy

This classroom project was brought to life by Windows of Hope Foundation.
Our school has taken a neural education approach to teaching social emotional learning. In addition to our core instruction, our special education students often need more opportunities to learn, practice, and generalize. Our designated SEL space, will allow students to come and reset their minds and bodies so that they can reengage in the learning of their classrooms. By teaching students about the brain, students are able to understand what is happening neurologically when they become dysregulated and how to overcome it through explicitly taught strategies. Our designated SEL space, will provide an active calming center for students who are experiencing upset. They will be able to learn and generalize self-regulations skills. These books will be used as one of many centers for students to engage in while in the SEL space.
