Our school has taken a neural education approach to teaching social emotional learning. In addition to our core instruction, our special education students often need more opportunities to learn, practice, and generalize. Our designated SEL space, will allow students to come and reset their minds and bodies so that they can reengage in the learning of their classrooms. By teaching students about the brain, students are able to understand what is happening neurologically when they become dysregulated and how to overcome it through explicitly taught strategies. Our designated SEL space, will provide an active calming center for students who are experiencing upset. They will be able to learn and generalize self-regulations skills. These books will be used as one of many centers for students to engage in while in the SEL space.
