The Apple iPad Air is a great tool for distance learning and teaching. This device will allow me to easily connect with students and have access to apps I can use interactively during live instruction.
Remote learning is a fresh challenge that requires new innovation and tools. After 23 years in middle school, this year, I was unexpectedly reassigned to teach online and kindergarten for the first time in my career. I am currently using my own internet, IT equipment, and personal computer for online meetings facilitated from my home. With an iPad, students will benefit from seeing an interactive screen providing them real time instruction. Specifically, with the touch screen, students will have live modeling on a "virtual whiteboard" how to form letters and numbers so that students can master printing upper and lowercase letters (ELA L.K.1.a) and write numbers from 0-20 (MATH K.CC.A.3). In watching the writing process, students can then practice and ask questions to seek clarification of their own progress towards mastery.
The students have been using the online, interactive learning platform Seesaw to complete virtual activities to submit recordings of their actual handwriting. The iPad camera and microphone will provide for students individualized audio and video feedback that will directly address their unique strengths and weaknesses. Students will benefit from tailored, customized comments they can then use to course correct, allowing them to glow and grow into amazing writers.
Your contribution to this project would have an enormous impact on the virtual learning environment for students by affording them the benefit of real time interaction, modeling, and feedback that will immediately be able to implement and improve their writing.
