I am requesting materials to help my students become life-long learners of Science concepts. Due to the COVID pandemic, many of my students have come to school without the essential science background they need in order to be successful in 2nd grade and beyond. The pandemic negatively impacted their learning and I believe the materials I am requesting will help boost their learning to the level it would normally be upon entering 2nd grade. The kits I am requesting will enrich their learning experiences and provide them with the necessary background knowledge they will need for science in future grade levels. The owl pellets, butterfly kits, and other science kits will allow them to learn about living things, and their learning will be hands on, authentic, and powerful. The Covid pandemic caused many of my students to miss out on science investigations with their peers in class during 1st grade and Kindergarten. The book sets will help my students become more proficient readers, as many of my students are reading below grade level, due to not having quality reading instruction while learning virtually the past 2 years. Being able to have access to wonderful nonfiction and fiction books at their level will help them develop into lifelong readers, and the nonfiction books will help support the science concepts they are learning. (ELA RL.2.1; RI.2.1, RI.2.2, RI.2.5, RI.2.9,) (Science 2.LS4-1, LS.2.A, LS.4.D)
