We have been utilizing the novel, Towers Falling for many years as a teaching tool for students to further understand the events of September 11th. I have chosen this novel, because the author wrote it with the idea that children do not necessarily understand the events of September 11th. She wrote it through the perspective of a curious 5th grader who is trying to understand the connection of the events of that day and the relationship and role her father may have played in that day. Students really begin to love the main character as she opens up about her natural fears and loves of being in a new school, while dealing with major issues in her home. Students develop ideas that are connected to the events of September 11th. The author begins to tell the tale of that day, when the towers fell. It is imperative for students to learn how to understand the events of that day with utilizing proper facts and details that are truthful and meaningful to show the strength of our country.
