Capturing the attention of readers is the biggest challenge as an ELA teacher. Once you have been able to do that, then you have a reader for life! Graphic novels are an excellent way to do just that. No longer are graphic novels for the world of superheroes alone, authors from Ann M. Martin (author of Baby Sitters Club) to Stephen King have joined the graphic novel train. If we get these books for our classroom, we will use them on a daily basis. Students will read them in class during our silent reading time, and will have the option to borrow them so they can read from home. These books are excellent for readers of all levels! Students with out the vocabulary can still follow the pictures, and students who are on or above level can read a great story!
