The Nevada standards stress concrete examples that connect to the students' lives and experiences. These resources will do just that (RL.2.2/3, RF.2, W.2.3, 2.OA.A.1). The family counters give students real connections to their families, so they can concretely count something familiar. The puppets give the opportunity to explore and clarify their thoughts while telling and recounting stories, and the sound cubes help them to see the individual sounds and how they connect/blend into words. Students should feel connected to their learning and understanding concretely. These resources can help do just that!
