Many students have lost the art of reading for enjoyment. Reading is a lifelong skill is necessary throughout their life. Scholastic News magazine includes non-fiction articles that are engaging and is filled with current events. Those who read will succeed! The usage of the magazine is a gateway to their success. Nevada Academic Content Standards would be covered throughout usage of the Scholastic Magazine resource. For example, RI.6.1 states Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. The articles come with a variety of questions that allow the students to support their answer with text evidence. The pencils and erasers would allow them to identify, record, and revise their textual evidence when/if necessary for their answers.
