  • Growing a Class Library

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom library! It is with much thanks that I can say my students can now find a voice and human they can connect with, someone or something they can see resembling the world they live in. Hesitant readers-a growing clientele in many schools and a growing challenge for teachers-will, with your donations, find their voice in what they read. Know that you are are not only helping reluctant readers find their voice but that you are part of the team and assisting teachers close a gap that hinders every aspect of life for many of our students.

As an introduction to the books, students were tasked with creating a video book review for one of the new titles without actually reading it. This was done to serve two objectives: introduce the books and to hook the students into reading a book. It didn't surprise me when several students quickly asked if they could check the book out and keep reading. These books are already making a great addition to the learning experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Larson

  • Books Like Me

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

I want to thank you for your generous contributions that will enable my students to have good books at their disposal and in proximity of where they read-in the classroom. The titles that you have endowed us with will ensure real-world connections for all students regardless of their station at this moment in life; good literature mimics and informs us. Thanks!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Larson

My students read from a choice book daily. Studies show that proximately is a factor when it comes to young adults and reading. That said, a number of lessons and sharing will take place. Students will be able to check books out and bring them to class for reading instruction and sharing in small groups. Ideally this will get the snowball rolling as they learn from each other and have engaging conversations about the great book they read. The big outcome for my students is to recognize the societal and individual struggles that exist in our society, to develop compassion and empathy for experiences in our own community. I like nice.
