I love reading and music. I plan to use Bud, Not Buddy to do a novel study with my students that teaches them about both. As a novel study, we will explore the characters, make connections to the world, ourselves, and other texts, and identify and investigate the themes. We will practice our reading comprehension strategies, strengthen our summarizing skills, and improve our creative writing. In addition, we will learn about the events that took place during the Great Depression when this story takes place and the effects it had on children, as well as how it shaped history in our city. The story is rich with the musical influences of the time, and we will learn about the different music styles and make connections to the music the students are learning about in their music class.
