These materials will be used by my students to grow food in the classroom which we will cook and eat together. I have a background in agricultural education and have worked both on farms and in schools for over a decade now. I love merging these interests and my students get so much out of food based lessons, especially those where they get their hands dirty and mouths fed. This year I am lucky enough to be able to teach an agriculture based course called AgVentures. In this class we have an entire unit dedicated to hydroponic growing. Many of these materials will be used to help my students design and build a classroom hydroponics system. With the food grown in the hydroponics system, along with produce from our already existing school garden, we will use the cooking materials to make delicious and nutritious meals to enjoy together. My students learn better when ALL of their senses are engaged! With engaging cooking and gardening lesson I hope to help my students think critically about where their food comes from and what it does for their bodies. Many of my students belive that food comes from the grocery and corner stores. By engaging them in the act of growing and cooking their own food I hope to help them think critically about what they eat and how to better care for themselves and the planet.
