I currently have an old iPad running iOS 12. I have been using it almost every day in class for the past five years. I would like to upgrade to a new iPad for the increased storage, increased speed, and the ability to upgrade apps I already use as well as use new apps that need iOS 13 and higher. I use several apps (Calculus, Math, Desmos, etc) that help students visualize 3D objects and connect the algebraic properties to these objects. I mirror my iPad screen to the projector and I am then able to rotate and reflect the 3D object so students can see the different surfaces and make better connections. The newer apps that run on iOS 14 will also allow me to record these demos/simulations so absent students can also benefit from the experience. (G-GMD-B, G-MG-A, G-SRT-A, F-IF-C) Plickers is an app that allows me to quickly collect data. I project multiple choice questions and students hold up a card with a QR-like code on it. The orientation of the card indicates what letter choice they think is correct. Then I scan the room with my iPad. This gives me a quick way to determine if the class understands the new material. (NEPF IS 5). This year, I have had several students quarantined due to Covid and I also have a student who has minimal use of their limbs and writes using their mouth with an Apple Pen. All of these students have to take submit digital versions of their work to me. To give them feedback, I annotate using the iPad and stylus. The Apple Pen is supposed to be amazing for this purpose but my old iPad is not compatible with the Apple Pen.
