To create a more inclusive school community where students have leadership opportunities, our Model Maverick program was created. We hope to empower 5th-grade elementary students at Madison Crossing Elementary by providing leadership skills, experiences, and opportunities so they can create safe and respectful communities. Starting in October, each month will bring new social and leadership skills. Students will also learn that leadership comes with service to others. The Model Mavericks will lead two service projects throughout the school year, one being an Earth Day Beautification project. With these tools, my students will be able to serve their school community and learn the importance of taking care of not only themselves but others as well. The recycling bins would start a school-wide project and help all students learn the importance of not being wasteful. The gardening tools will be used periodically throughout the school year but most importantly on Earth Day, where students will be able to plant something of their choice to remain for years to come.
