These resources will support our post-COVID Service Learning and Elementary Book Exchange which employ Project Based Learning methods with my 200 Senior students. Each selection I am requesting will help the students visualize and prepare their projects, and remain organized in the process.
The projects tie closely with College and Career Readiness Standards, as well as Nevada State Learning Standards, including:
W.11-12.7 Conduct short and sustained research.
W.11-12.8 Gather relevant information.
W.11-12.10 Write routinely over extended time frames.
SL.11-12.1 Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 11–12 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
Come to discussions prepared, having read and researched material under study; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence from texts and other research on the topic or issue to stimulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned exchange of ideas.
Work with peers to promote civil, democratic discussions and decision-making, set clear goals and deadlines, and establish individual roles as needed.
Propel conversations by posing and responding to questions that probe reasoning and evidence; ensure a hearing for a full range of positions on a topic or issue; clarify, verify, or challenge ideas and conclusions; and promote divergent and creative perspectives.
SL.11-12.2 Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) in order to make informed decisions and solve problems, evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source and noting any discrepancies among the data.
The radios will help groups stay in constant contact with the teacher and project managers, as they survey areas of campus for project ideas. The fidgets and candies act as extrinsic motivators and self-regulatory devices during project development. Thank you for your consideration!
