If my students can not relate their learning to things they know or have experienced before, the new information will not be relevant to them and long term understanding cannot occur. All of the materials I am asking for are to assist my Second Language Learners to bridge the gap between the things they may know in their home language, to becoming proficient in English to be successful students. My Second Language Learners deserve to have the same quality education as all students. By providing visual and tactile supports, my students can relate their knowledge to new information that is presented to them. I am asking for materials that will help my students learn basic skills that other K, 1, and 2 students have access to such as letters and sounds, days of the week, putting sounds together to make words, and comprehending and retelling text. The extra supports that I will be able to provide with the requested resources will give my students the extra practice in basic skills needed for them to be happy and successful students.
