The materials that are selected will aid in providing my students with activities that will help alleviate the anxiety that may occur from daily routines/challenges that they are faced within the school environment. They will be able to have centers/and another room to go to, so they can relax their mind. The aromatherapy will help to give a calming/relaxing feel to the room as they smell the aroma. The low lighting paired with the LED lights and calming music will give students automatic relief from the busyness of the day. Those students who are fidgety can use the scooters to exert some energy in a fun and unique way.
My students who are diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and psychosomatic issues would benefit from activities that would help them to be calm, to relax, and to focus. When students become agitated, they lose focus, interest, and may become aggressive. The idea of having a multi-sensory room/centers, is to provide a safe space that would allow the teacher/aides to take a student and have them engage in the calming activities with hopes of de-escalating any potential crisis situations. Once students have a regular routine of multi-sensory stimulation, that will help to foster appropriate participation from the students.
