Needed: Classroom Library to Develop First-Grade Readers
Funded Aug 28, 2024This project is ongoing and it's going great! I have been using our leveled classroom library as a tool to motivate students to level up with reading. As students read and reread a book from an assigned bin, they practice familiar and unfamiliar words, build vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension skills before going on to the next book. The goal is to read each book in an assigned bin with a 90% accuracy rate and demonstrate comprehension. Once that happens, they receive a level up sticker and move to the next bin. At this time, most of the students have moved up one level due to demonstrating fluency and reading comprehension. With time and consistency, I expect to see more growth.”

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Students
Funded Oct 1, 2023Thanks for helping to enhance my students' science lessons from the 2nd quarter. Although the period ended before receiving the resources, I found time to yet let them explore with the telescope, Earth, Moon, and Sun model, and station activities. They were very excited! I was great to see them demonstrate understanding of previous lessons as they figured out how to put the model together based on what they remembered about the Earth orbiting the sun, and the moon orbiting the Earth. I look forward to next year's class starting the year with these things. Thanks again!”

In the Home Stretch
Funded Feb 6, 2023This project helped to provide basic supplies towards the end of the school year (2022-2023). This included copy paper, spiral notebooks per student, pencils, and Clorox wipes. Thanks to your donation, I was able to make copies of math practice sheets which helped students practice various skills towards mastery. The notebooks provided a resource for note-taking and writing. In the end, the majority of my math students had growth on their end of year diagnostic. Many of them demonstrated mastery in particular domains. Being able to provide copies to focus on particular skills made a big difference!”

Every Day Counts…Including the Last Days of School
Funded May 9, 2023The tablets that you donated helped students to continue practicing on I-Ready after the school issued tablets were taken up for the school year. Why was this important? Well, school was yet in session and they needed to stay on their daily routines. Part of that included learning and practicing with the, "My Path" lessons.
My Path lessons are based on a student's performance on the diagnostic. The lessons are adaptable to their individual needs. That is why it was so important to maintain that structure and focus. In short, we had to make every day count... including the last day!”

Funded May 9, 2023The math journals were given to both math classes on or near the last day of school (May 2022). They, (along with their parents) were so appreciative! It is my hope that they used them to study over the Summer, but no one responded to my Class Dojo messages asking for an update.
Those students are in the second grade now and just took a benchmark test through I-Ready. I hope they did better as a result of having the math journals over the Summer. Again, I thank you for your generosity and patience.”

Funded Nov 18, 2022I cannot fully express how much of a difference it has been having my own Eco Tank printer. With this printer, I am able to print data reports, skill-based sheets, and extra copies of weekly lessons.
However, the greatest part is that I am able to print and make copies of class sets of work and necessary copies from the math book. This is significant because that was not possible before. Thanks to your generosity, my ability to make up for book shortages doesn't depend on access to a school copy machine. When it's broke down or out of toner, copies are yet made with my Eco Tank! Thank you!!!!😃”

Make Math Magical
Funded Nov 2, 2022My students and I received our math materials! They were very excited to see everything and couldn't wait to use them.
The first materials to be used were the centimeter cubes and Pom-poms. The centimeter cubes were used to measure classroom objects and items in their math book. Students learned to measure from one end point to the other. The Pom-poms were used to help introduce them to graphing data. They counted and sorted the handful of Pom-poms they had in order to glue and display their data.
The next steps for Make Math Magical includes measuring with their rulers, adding and subtracting with their base ten rods, and making shapes. We truly appreciate your generosity!”

Creative Learning in Kindergarten
Funded Sep 8, 2022The Creative Learning in Kindergarten project has been very successful! Unlike the other things that I have received, the Cricut wasn't introduced to my students, therefore I don't have their reactions to seeing the Cricut.
Nevertheless, before the dissolution of my kindergarten section, I used the Cricut to cut out letters for students to hold, trace, or use to build words during whole group. Besides that, we used it for a Social Studies lesson on Hispanic Heritage. They truly enjoyed it!
Next Steps-
Creative Learning in Kindergarten will continue as Creative Learning in First Grade Math. The Cricut will come in handy with arrays, 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, and measurements. I am looking forward to helping students with creating learning resources for math.”

Kinder Makeover - 2
Funded Sep 8, 2022My students were so very excited and happy when they first saw the materials (ELA journals, reading comprehension, arts and craft items such as upper and lowercase letters and strings for necklaces). Although the necklaces looked a lot like playing as students engaged with them, they were actually learning and encoding words.
Students used the necklaces as an offline station, which was on time because students were learning letter sounds and how to blend those sounds. They were able to build several CVC pattern words fluently.
Next steps- Now that I no longer teach kindergarten, those resources will be used to engage kindergartners or first graders during after school tutoring.”

Kindergarten Room Makeover!
Funded Aug 26, 2022The resources that were provided for the "Kindergarten Room Makeover," really helped to put the final touches on changing my room from a second grade classroom to the inviting, literacy rich kindergarten classroom that I desired! To present the resources to my class, I told them how we would use each resource and why. Then, I set things up as stations for them to rotate to. This gave them an opportunity to explore the resources prior to working with them as assignments. My students were happy and eager to use everything! However, they were most excited about the "What's the Rhyme Sorting Houses" and the "Positional Words Resource Box." Both resources had things that seemed like toys and felt like playing instead of learning, (they were learning). As anticipated, all students were motivated to read the Fiction and Nonfiction Sight Word Readers Level 1 from Lakeshore.
The sight word readers were on time with helping students compare and contrast fiction to nonfiction. The sight word readers had big print with either colorful photographs or illustrations, which helped to get and maintain students' attention. Many of them expressed a sense of accomplishment when they were able to read words that we'd studied previously.
Next steps -
I know longer teach kindergarten, but plan to use these resources during after school tutoring this semester.”
