  • Smell Good, Feel Good!

    Our fifth grade students were thrilled to see that their hygiene packets included deodorant, a toothbrush, tooth paste, dental floss, shampoo, Always pads (for our female students) and soap. Our students will use the resources on a regular basis as a hygiene routine. We discussed how their body will change and that their hygiene routine will also have to change to meet the needs of their body. Oral hygiene lessons and regular visits to the dentist will also be discussed with our students.

These materials will help my students feel confident about their changing body. My students live in the Florence-Firestone community in South Los Angeles. 97.95 % of our students live in low income households where the pandemic has made it even more difficult for families to meet the basic needs of their children. These items will help my students increase their attendance because having clean clothes is important when engaging with peers. This is a time in their life when accepting themselves and their body is crucial to their self-esteem. These items will bring a smile to my students.

About my class
