This school year has undoubtedly been the most challenging of my 23-year career. Students have lost touch with how to interact with each other in a classroom setting, civilly disagree with one another, and appreciate the joy that comes from interaction with other people and nature. They have been trapped at home, on a glowing screen since the pandemic began. My students need to reconnect with each other on a human level. This is a need for their hearts and souls as they seem to be more desensitized to other people and the common emotions, goals, and dreams that bind us together. I hope that through photography, my students can begin to once again appreciate the commonalities of the human condition and grow in empathy for one another in a world that desperately needs it. Using the high quality camera and accessories in my cart, students will be able to create amazing photo spreads that we will use to talk about identifying emotions on people's faces, even through masks. This will allow students to evaluate the social/emotional state of their classmates. The goal is to be aware of how their emotions and other's emotions affect communication.
