My students struggle to stay seated in a traditional desk and chair. Allowing students with ADHD or Austim to sit in alternative seating gives them the chance to focus on the curriculum. Students are able to meet their sensory needs by bouncing, rocking, or being able to sit on the floor; this then aids in keeping the scholar focused. Students will be able to use alternative seating in the general education setting or in the resource room. There are other sensory tools scholars can use. Students will be able to squeeze pillows when they are feeling frustrated, or stand or feel on the sensory pads while they stand and do their work. This can replace disruptive behaviors in the classroom such as rocking back in chairs, falling out of seats, leaving assigned areas, etc. Help my scholars stay focused!
