The students I teach come from low-income households of all diversities. Some of these students may have never opened an actual book due to the coronavirus pandemic. Having a new library would allow my students to have the opportunity to explore the worlds these books hold and help them get away from the hectic lives we have today. A classroom library will allow my students to use the standard RL.1.3. This standard covers describing what characters, settings and major events happen in a story. I want my students to be able to experience what school was like before the pandemic. The students I will be teaching will not have had a traditional school experience in the past two years. As an example, the students in a second grade class will not have had a full calendar school year under their belts when they should already have two years of experience. I want to be able to provide a positive learning environment to get my children caught up on experiences they may have missed.
