Middle School is such an exciting and fun experience. It can also be one of the most difficult times in a student's life, even without the stress and confusion of the past year and a half. Our students are struggling with their mental health, stress, families, etc. and need to learn healthy coping skills to work through these difficult things and learn to be mindful and resilient. We have seen an increase of students who need additional support regulating their emotions in order to learn academically. I am wanting to add different materials and activities to open a student wellness room and counseling offices that create a space for students to feel welcome, included, support, and safe. I would like to add more comfortable seating to my office, as well as puzzles, pillows, and other items to the wellness room to create a safe and comfortable environment. When students feel they are in a safe environment, learning and growth can happen in the classroom.
