Sensory seating is often used in elementary school and sometimes used in middle school but almost never used in high school. When you look at some of the most successful professional industries for adults you will frequently find non-traditional seating, flexible furniture, and individualized work spaces. Why are our high school students stuck with learning tools that don't fit their needs? Sensory seating such as wobble seats, standing seats, ball seats, swing bands, and sensory cushions will allow our students to take care of their body's need to move while allowing their minds to focus on learning and leading. The horseshoe table will allow our staff to work with multiple students at once for group activities. Most of our rooms have traditional desks/tables and chairs. But one room has a mix of traditional seating (for class lessons) and areas in the room with a bar height table, glider rocker, or bean bag chair and students can choose from these options for independent work. We want to be able to provide our students with more options at both the class lesson areas as well as create more small group or individual work areas that meet our students sensory needs. Funding this project will allow us more options in more classrooms and benefiting all of our current and future students.
