The materials requested will enhance the experience the math students have. They have suffered from not having many positive interactions with one another and the mathematics classroom. These materials and supplies will allow them the opportunity to work collaboratively while engaging with activities that focus on the Nevada Academic Content Standards including the Standards of Mathematical Practices. Those 8 standards ask students to make sense of problems, work collaboratively, reason abstractly, and use math tools and strategies appropriately. The items that are in this request specifically address these standards and will make the learning meaningful and intentional. The Wobble Stools, specifically, accommodate those students who find themselves antsy in the classroom. The stool gives them the flexibility to realize their needs and make adjustments without disruption to the Learning. Playing games, like Absolute Zero, not only foster those much needed math skills, but also contribute to positive interactions with classmates and collaborative learning. The same can be said for the Dry Erase Boards. Students will work on math problems together and display their thinking on the board. Then, those students can roam the classroom and look at the thinking and solutions their classmates have. Rich, mathematical discussion will result from this type of work. The Coordinate Plane White Boards really help students to understand the X and Y Axis along with plotting points. All of this work addresses the NVACS and really aids in real world student learning.
