These learning tools will assist the students during our Social Emotional play time, twice in our day. Our first unit in shared reading is titled "How do we live, work and play together?" It perfectly coincides with the beginning of the school year because my kindergarteners and essentially everyone is school is learning these exact topics. It's vital in their development to not only play, but it also, helps them socialize through social emotional learning. Listening to one another, sharing, taking turns, being imaginative, making connections, building friendships, building strategies when things go wrong, and trial and error are just a few examples of how play is important to their development at an early age. One of the topics in this first unit is community helpers and these learning tools will assist them with our imaginative play. Taking on one of the these community helpers, and recreating a scene or story. Using one of the cars and the garages to create a town or city that is similar to theirs-Aurora. They can make connections to their own parents who are community helpers in our own community. The possibilities are endless! These figurines will also be important to them because they are multi-cultural and my students can relate to them or see themselves as one of these when they get older.
