The thing I hear all day is "Do you have any snacks?" I want the answer to be yes! A majority of my students come from poor families and other tough situations. A lot of times, the students don't have the option to bring snacks from home and me providing them can help tide them over til lunch, give them another option when the school lunch doesn't meet their needs or give them the fuel to stay after school and get extra help. A hungry student is a distracted student! Help me fill their bellies so I can fill their minds. It also helps me make deeper connections with the students. We all know how food can be the great uniter. I started my teaching career in the middle of the pandemic, so I've really struggled to make those deep connections with students with all the craziness of the last 2 years. Sometimes, that snack is what opens the door for students to feel comfortable asking me for help or speaking up in my class. Thanks for your help!
