Many students learn by doing, not just by watching or listening. The transformation helps create a memorable environment to learn multiple lessons in highly engaging ways. For example, I have transformed the classroom into a football field, where we have done "Grammer games" allowing students a way to learn about boring grammar through highly engaging games. An idea for this project is "A kid in King Arthur's Court" would be paired with multiple lessons for writing for students to write about rules they would create being the King or queen of a new land. This would help students develop their writing in a real way. The actual project will allow me to "take" students to magical places by creating different environments that will help develop the students background knowledge. These materials will be used to create engaging environments that will change monthly. This will benefit the whole school, not just specific classrooms. All other teachers will also be able to utilize the room to teach other lessons in a new an engaging way. Previous themes/lessons have been: Harry Potter magical math , Under the sea reading, In the Clouds greek history, Winter wonderland word work, Rockstar Reading. The newest themes would include "Kid in King Arthur's Court, On the Farm, Harvest time, Land Before Time, Camp out, and many more. The sensory experience is then paired with lessons that might have been boring before. The items in my cart will allow for lighting effects, wall decor, and various "behind the scenes" things to make environments magical for all students (and teachers). Additionally, with rechargeable batteries, it will help maintain the special effects in a way that is sustainable and not a nuisance on the environment. Every kid needs some magic in their life.
