The listening center with headphones will help all my first graders learn the joy of listening to a good book with classmates. Multi-language students will hear words read to them fluently with tone and prosody, in English. Students can listen to the same story over and over, learning how to emulate a good reader. The listening center can be a powerful tool for encouraging shy readers to practice along with the book in a safe space. Not only will the listening center provide students with opportunities to use technology in a small group, but it will give students a sense of responsibility to care for their classroom materials that enhance their learning.
